Career Center earns Sam Carson Award

The Region Q Workforce Development Board recently awarded the Beaufort County NCWorks Career Center the Sam Carson Award.  The Center developed a collaborative and systematical approach to assist job seekers in Beaufort County by partnering with multiple agencies to promote workforce development and create a talent pipeline that matched job seekers to local employers.  In addition, they worked with their local public school system to have juniors and seniors registered into our online portal, NCWorks.gov.  The Center went on to partner with Beaufort County Community College to provide career services to their students.  A Career Advisor is on the BCCC Campus two days a week.  Lastly, the Center developed a marketing approach that included running ads in the local newspaper as well as creating a social media presence to provide the community valuable information on career services.

The Sam Carson Award was created by The Board in December 2007 to recognize the outstanding efforts of the NCWorks Career Center, Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act program operator, or NCWorks Center partner in the counties of Beaufort, Bertie, Hertford, Martin, and Pitt which has demonstrated outstanding efforts in the marketing and promotion of the Workforce Development system.

We congratulate the staff of the Beaufort County NCWorks Career Center on all their hard work serving the job seekers and employers of Beaufort County.

Quinton Turman, Region Q Board Chair, presents the Award to Sharon Tyson, Assistant Manager for the Career Center.
