On Thursday, August 3, Martin General Hospital in Williamston announced its suspension of operations. Rivers East Workforce Development Board is committed to equipping these displaced employees with resources to assist in taking their next step toward the future. The Rivers East Workforce Development Board has partnered with Pitt County Economic Development to distribute funding for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for individuals that do not qualify for Supportive Services through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). Examples of PPE may be items such as hard hats, safety vests, and steel toed boots that are the responsibility of the new employee to provide. To view the full press release, click here.

On May 11, 34 teachers from schools in Beaufort, Bertie, Hertford, Hyde, Martin, and Pitt counties completed Rivers East Advanced Manufacturing Academy.

With funding from Golden Leaf Foundation, the Rivers East Advanced Manufacturing Academy exposes teachers to the many careers in Advanced Manufacturing within the region. Teachers visit all 4 of the community colleges within the region and learn about the programs they offer that lead to careers in Advanced Manufacturing.
