Little finds success!

Akia Little enrolled in the Pitt County NextGen Program in 2016 at the age of 22. Little was not working and had very little work experience, but knew he needed to obtain his GED to move forward in his life.  He enrolled in the Transitional Studies Program at Pitt Community College and got his GED a month later!  Little had heard about the Career Readiness Certificate and how it helped with verifying employment skills, so he set his sights on his next credential … two months he obtained his CRC.  Little did not stop there, he was selected to participate in the Summer Internship Program with the City of Greenville.  His work-site supervisor was impressed with his work and wanted to hire him, so he worked with him on interviewing skills to prepare him for a future opening. While waiting for an opportunity to become available, Little enrolled in the “Project Skill Up” through Pitt Community College and earned several additional credentials (OSHA 10 and Six Sigma Yellow Belt).  Little had the opportunity to participate in another Internship through the Greenville Fire and Rescue Department.  While there, he obtained his FEMA Certification.  Little is now working full-time at Ann’s House of Nuts and credits all of this training for preparing him to succeed in life.  Little plans to continue his education by taking additional classes at PCC.  We congratulate Little on his accomplishments and wish him the best!  For more information on the NextGen Programs, please contact your local NCWorks Career Center.  NextGen serves youth between the ages of 16 and 24.
